In Memory of Angela.

Angela is a cherished member of the Making Daughters Safe Again community who sadly passed during the Fall of 2021. Angela joined MDSA in 2010, participating in our online community as well as attending our annual weekend retreats, traveling across the country each year to feel at “home” with us. She participated in the documentary, It Was a Woman, which featured Making Daughters Safe Again, and she was always a great ambassador and supporter of our work. Angela will be remembered for her resilience, friendship, quick wit, love for others, and her dedication to her own healing as well as the healing of others. MDSA has set up a scholarship fund in Angela’s honor and memory to offset costs of therapeutic services for survivors of mother-daughter sexual abuse.

FAQs

  • We no longer have a formal membership program that includes a 24/7/365 support forum so we don’t have a membership application process or paid memberships. We are now offering a variety of live programming, both free events and paid therapeutic services.

Individual events or services for survivors of mother-daughter sexual abuse will have an application or screening process to insure that the event is a safe and healing space.

  • MDSA offers the following free or lower cost events and services in support of our mission to support and advocate for survivors of mother-daughter sexual abuse and educate professionals and the general public:

  • Making Daughters Safe Again is not a federal nonprofit so you cannot make a tax deductible donation nor will we accept donations.

However, our free events will include an optional entrance fee, of which 100% of your money will go towards Angela’s Fund, in memory and honor of our long-time member who passed in 2021. This fund will provide scholarships and reduced fees to paid events and services for survivors of mother-daughter sexual abuse.

An advisory council of long-time MDSA members and friends of Angela will administrate the fund.

  • The work completed under Making Daughters Safe Again (MDSA) is affiliated with Dr. Hatchard’s general private practice for legal reasons (e.g. licensure to practice Psychology), but there are several significant differences:

    1) Dr. Hatchard’s private practice has a wider scope in terms of areas of specialty and expertise, and includes individual therapy. MDSA focuses exclusively on mother-daughter sexual abuse, and does not include individual therapy. However, survivors are welcome to join Dr. Hatchard’s private practice as individual clients.

    2) There are free events offered through MDSA. Dr. Hatchard, interns and co-presenters or facilitators volunteer their time during these events. Any optional entrance fees collected are donated to Angela’s Fund and are not managed by Dr. Hatchard.

    3) Dr. Hatchard and co-presenters or facilitators receive a lower fee for professional services for paid MDSA events, as compared to Dr. Hatchard’s general private practice.

    4) Decisions regarding MDSA, including fees for services, are set with the input of an advisory council. Dr. Hatchard’s private practice is independently operated.

    5) MDSA was founded in 1999 by Dr. Hatchard, and precedes her work in academia and as a licensed psychologist. As Dr. Hatchard received more education, training and credentials, she expanded the services offered through MDSA.

    6) Since its inception, the PRIMARY focus of MDSA has been to make information, support and resources on mother-daughter sexual abuse as accessible as possible to a global community to address this under-recognized form of trauma, for which few resources still exist.

    7) Making Daughters Safe Again is more than 1 person. It includes the hundreds of survivors of mother-daughter sexual abuse from around the world who have been part of our community, long-time members who have shaped our growth and direction, mental health professionals who have volunteered their time, countless student interns, and everyone who has supported us through our many iterations over 20+ years of service.
